The James W. Johnson family
arrived in 1910 to homestead property south of Glenrio, New Mexico,
arriving with 2 teams of horses and
wagons from Pilot Point, Texas. In 1910 there was still land
available for homesteading. James Johnson his daughters and son's
filed on
property that eventually led to a ranch of several hundred acres. The Johnson family raised milk cows for milk production that was
taken to the Glenrio train siding and shipped to Amarillo, Texas. The actual paper milk caps for the bottles were stored in the
ceiling of the house. In recent times the ceiling collapsed strewing
hundred of the caps on the floor. The property is still referred to
as the "Old Johnson Place" by the locals.
