Lunch - Individual parties to purchase travel lunches in Albuquerque
Drive to Dolores/Mancos/Mesa Verde – individuals need to make their own motel / camping arrangements.
Dinner on own.
8:30 Meet at the picnic area just off the parking area and hike to Escalante Pueblo. We will have an interpretive guide provided by the heritage center. The trail is one-half mile long, paved, uphill, wheelchair-accessible. Excellent 360° view of area. Signs along the trail illuminate history and the local environment
9:00 Tour Exhibits Note: the BLM fee for the Heritage Center is $3.00.

BONUS EVENT: 7:00 pm at Mesa Verde National Park Visitor Center
The Four Corners Lecture Series has scheduled Harvey Leak to speak at the Park Visitor Center at 7:00 pm on Friday, June 16, 2017. His topic at this event will be related to the Wetherill Archeology of Mesa Verde and Beyond. The Visitor Center is just of Hwy 160 before the road climbs to Mesa Verde ruins.
Each tour will be a special Wetherill family reunion tour, led by
the National Park Service.
There will be the usual fees for each site entrance, of $5.00
9:00 am Arrive at Wetherill Mesa Kiosk. The Wetherill Mesa Information Kiosk is located near the parking area at the end of the Wetherill Mesa Road.
9:30pm Special Wetherill family reunion Tour of Long House. Concludes at 11:30
Lunch on your own
1:30pm Meet at Cliff Palace entrance for a Wetherill Family Reunion Tour led by the NPS
3:00 pm Meet at Sun Point Overlook for a Wetherill Family photo with Cliff Palace in the background, to be taken by the NPS Photographer
4-6 pm Family gathering and storytelling. This event location has been changed from the Moorefield Amphitheater to the Amphitheater on Chapin Mesa, the one below the Museum.
Dinner on your own. If there is an interest to meet at the Metate Room Restaurant for dinner together we have tentatively block out room for 25-50 people at 7pm. for dinner. We need to give the restaurant a count by May 20th. Each group will pay their own ticket. Dinners will be in the price range of $30.00, and with beverage tax and tip estimate $50.00 per person.
at Ute Tribal Park Visitor Center which is on the only building on
the corner of Hwy 491( going south out of Cortez aprox. 20 miles)
and Hwy 160.
Both Full and
Half Day tours will leave from here and will travel together until
noon, at which time the half day tours will return to the Visitor
Center and the Full Day tour will continue.
Note: if you
only have one vehicle and part of your group wants to do the half
day and part to do the full day, your full day party can car pool
with other full day persons on the return trip into Cortez.
Half Day –
tour visits Ancestral Pueblo
petroglyphs, scenic lands, Ute pictographs panels, geological land
formations, and surface sites. All sites on the half-day tour are
within a short walking distance of the gravel road .
Full Day – This tour includes 5 climbs on ladders and a 3 mile round trip on unpaved trails to visit 4 well preserved canyon cliff dwellings.
